Privacy policy

1. The app works offline

Capture, annotate, record, edit, save, and the local library do not need the internet. Online features are only optional storage destinations you turn on in Settings.

2. What stays on your computer

Connecting Google Drive is not sending files to us. Those files stay in your Google account (personal, school, or organisation). We only receive images or videos if you later opt in to Cutcompress storage. That option is off today.

3. If you stay on Local, or you only use Google Drive

We do not store your screenshots or recordings on our servers. Drive is your account: you (and your Google Workspace admin, if any) control sharing, retention, and deletion. Continue with Google does not give us your password. Tokens stay on your PC. If you later create a site account, we may keep only name and email to reply to you.

4. Google Drive (personal, school, and work)

After capture, Save writes the file locally, then — if Drive is enabled — uploads it to your Drive folder ss-capture/YYYY-MM-DD/ and can copy a shareable link from that account. We do not host the file. We cannot browse or re-share it from our side. Disconnect in Settings or revoke the app in your Google Account to stop new uploads.

Google API Services User Data Policy Compliance (Limited Use Disclosure): ss-capture's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer, share, or sell Google user data to third parties, advertising platforms, data brokers, or information resellers. The access we request (specifically, the permission to upload files to your Google Drive via drive.file scope) is solely used to save your screen captures and video recordings to your own Google Drive storage at your request. We do not use Google Drive data for advertising, machine learning training, or any other unauthorized purpose.

5. Cutcompress storage — coming soon, not active

Connect is disabled in the current app. Do not treat this section as a live upload path.

When we ship it, only users who install a new build, reinstall, read the updated policy in the app, and then opt in will upload media to us. For those opt-in files we may look at:

so we can plan disks and hosting. We will not publish, sell, or circulate the screen contents. We will not use them as public demos without a separate written OK. Old installers will not start uploading to us by themselves.

6. This website

ss-capture.cutcompress.com is a static site on Cloudflare. Cloudflare may process connection logs (IP, country, user agent) as part of hosting and DDoS protection. We do not run an ad network on this site. We do not sell visitor lists.

7. Accounts and sign-in

The desktop app does not require an ss-capture account. Google sign-in is only for Drive. Future site accounts, if any, will store name and email. We will not claim ownership of your Google account.

8. Children

The product is not directed at children under 13. Do not send us personal data of children.

9. Retention

Local files stay until you delete them (or the in-app retention for soft-deleted items). Drive files follow Google. Future Cutcompress objects will have a retention we will publish before launch. Support emails we keep only as long as needed to answer you.

10. Your requests

Email us to ask what basic contact data we hold, or to ask us to delete an email thread. For files on your disk or in your Drive, you already control them.

11. Lawful requests

We cannot hand over files that we do not hold. Local and Drive files are on your device or in your Google account. If Cutcompress storage is later launched and a user has opted in, we will respond only to valid legal process under Indian law for data we actually store. We do not volunteer private screen contents to third parties.

12. Changes

Subscriptions, Cutcompress storage, and extra analytics will not start silently. We will update this policy, the Trust page, and the in-app Settings text first, then publish a new installer. You choose whether to download and reinstall.
